Faculty Advisor: Ms. Donna Clement

“The “S.G.A” , or Student Government Association’s, purpose is to promote leadership qualities in young people and to provide a democratic system of government, whereby students at Tchefuncte Middle School have representation within the student body,” says Mrs. Clement. The teacher sponsors are Mrs. Clement, Mrs. Todd, Mrs. Kastava, and Mrs. Fortner. On the first Tuesday in every month the S.G.A members meet in Mrs. Clement’s classroom. There are 43 representatives right now in the program.

In each classroom students run for class representative or alternate. Then each class votes for a representative and an alternate. The alternate is there in case the representative is absent from a meeting. Once the representative is voted in, he or she can run for an S.G.A office. S.G.A. representatives give tours of the school, and raise money for charities such as the American Red Cross. The S.G.A. also sponsors a talent show near the end of the year. S.G.A. is a wonderful program and great practice for kids who want to be leaders.
