The science fair is an opportunity for students to find a problem that they can solve through experimentation. It also allows students to prepare a visual and oral presentation they can apply to real word projects. About 300 students participate in the science fair each year. First a grade level competition is held where teachers judge the project board and the abstract. Of the participants, 25% of the students make it to the next level, the school-wide level. At the School-wide fair, students give oral reports on their projects to judges from around the parish. The ten students who are chosen at the school-wide fair then go on to the regional science fair in Hammond, Louisiana.
